Bramble The Mountain King is a story of a young boy exploring the grim world to rescue his sister. Inspired by Nordic fables, you travel the dark landscape and survive deadly encounters with many horrifying creatures. Many may have seen this game from a tiktok featuring Bramble jumping across lily pads in a pond and a tall muddy figure hearing and then disappearing into the water below, setting a scene where the player is unaware where the figure will turn up next. I was captivated by the art and wondered why I loved the look of the game until it hit me.
The game itself is beautifully made and features a wonderful story and scary monsters, but it was the similiarity of this game to Little Nightmares that brought a familiar sense of nostalgia. Both games feature the use of 2.5D that limits perspective to give players that sense of uneasiness. Like in Little Nightmares, Bramble The Mountain King also features having a small protagonist as a sharp contrast to the size of everything else, which is huge.
The game itself had been nominated for many awards and came out as the grand winner of the NYX Game Awards. The reviews for the game itself have been overwhelmingly positive, and many people sharing the love for nordic fables. I highly recommend this game to folks who also loved the Little Nightmares franchise, this game is one to bring you back and experience a whole new world of grimm and scary tales.
